Replacing the old eSpring filter cartridge. What you need to know

If you’ve had an eSpring water purification system in your home for some time, you probably know that the filter cartridge needs to be replaced regularly. This ensures that the filter continues to purify water effectively. In 2024, Amway introduced the new eSpring system with UV-C LED technology, but that doesn’t mean the old model no longer works or that replacement parts and filter cartridges are no longer available. On the contrary, replacement cartridges for the older model will remain available for several more years.

In this article we explain how to identify which model you have, when it’s time to replace the filter and how to properly order a cartridge for your system.

If You Have an Older eSpring Model

Why and When to Replace the Filter Cartridge

Regardless of the model, the filter cartridge has a limited service life because it traps and removes contaminants, and its effectiveness decreases over time. The cartridge must be replaced when a specified volume of water has been filtered (usually about 5,000 liters) or approximately one year after installation, whichever condition comes first.

The exact lifespan of the cartridge depends on the water quality and usage in your home – the more water you filter, the sooner you’ll need to replace the cartridge.

How should you know when it's time to change the cartridge

The older model uses an indicator light and an audible alert. When the filter cartridge needs to be replaced, a red light comes on and the filter beeps while water is running.

The process of replacing an older model filter

Unlike the latest model, in which the cartridge can be replaced in a couple of minutes without tools (the so-called “2-1-0” rule), the process takes longer on older eSpring models:

  1. Turn off the water supply.
  2. Remove the filter cover.
  3. Disconnect the water hoses from the appliance*.
  4. Remove the old filter cartridge.
  5. Rinse the compartment where the filter cartridge was located.
  6. Insert the new filter cartridge in the correct orientation.
  7. Reconnect the water hoses.
  8. Follow the remaining steps outlined in the instruction manual for your model.

* A special tool, included with the filter cartridge, is used to disconnect the hoses.

You can replace the filter cartridge yourself at home, there’s no need to call a technician. Although the process takes longer than with the new model, you can do it yourself, just follow the simple  steps listed above.

We recommend that you follow the instructions specific to your model during the replacement process or, if you have any questions, contact us. We’ll help you determine the steps required for your specific system.

How to order the right cartridge for Your system

We recommend ordering the filter cartridge directly from the official AMWAY website. When you buy it there, you can be sure that you are purchasing a genuine filter and receiving the manufacturer’s warranty.

Other replaceable parts

When replacing the filter cartridge, it’s a good idea to check these two parts as well, if they’re worn out, it’s also recommended that you replace them:

  • Filter housing – the container in which the filter cartridge is installed. If you notice any cracks or damage, replace it along with the cartridge.
  • Filter housing sealing ring – if you notice a water leak after replacing the cartridge, it is usually sufficient to replace only this ring.
